Dillwyn

VCE's Dillwyn facility provides inmate training on metal component cutting, milling, and welding.

Inmate workforce members are trained using a multitude of metal and upholstery manufacturing equipment and practices. They learn high demand skilled jobs in working with various materials, techniques, and processes. Both modern technologically advanced equipment as well as manual processes are utilized in the manufacturing of product offerings.

VCE Workforce Development employs strategies to improve the inmate workers’ productivity in the workplace and provide the necessary skills to secure meaningful employment in the private sector upon their release from custody. We are committed to workforce development programs that focus on the inmate workers’ ability to grow their skills and develop the tools needed for future success. This training is delivered in the form of registered apprenticeships, industry/vendor certification programs and workforce development programs.

"With the VCE program here that they have it’s nice because it’s a job…it’s job skills…these guys are learning stuff and it’s not just learning the actual skills they’re actually learning how to work with other people…That’s what I think is really important about this program…it teaches you work ethic, not just how to weld."

Although it can take a little time to receive your order, the furniture is very well made and worth the wait. Also, I was having a hard time finding a stand up desk to fit the size of my regular desk. Karl actually made a trip to Harrisonburg to look at my desk, measure it, and talk with me about options. Then he went back to his office, checked it out, and let me know what they could do. You don’t get that type of service much anymore!
